Liverpool had many players in action this weekend in the World Cup qualifiers.

Amongst some were Steven Gerrard who put on a fantastic display against Slovakia (no goal, but a 4-0 victory) for Fabio Capello’s England.

Dirk Kuyt scored the last goal in Holland’s 3-0 victory against Scotland from the penalty spot in the 78th minute.

All of this though was overshadowed by the tragic stadium collapse on the Ivory Coast which has killed 22 people, BBC reports at: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7971140.stm.

YNWA all you dead,

Is it only me who care nothing about the national team games, now that are coming up on the FIFA-dates?

http://cache.deadspin.com/assets/images/deadspin/2008/07/Mandela_World_Cup.jpg

Honestly, I look forward much more to see Liverpool play Fulham away than seeing England play whoever they now are playing…

I do not want to see another English failure (having too many stars to operate with), really, I care very little about this…

Sure, it is the qualifiers for the World Cup 2010, but still – I want the Premier League and the Champions League back in business… I feel like Jamie Carragher…

YNWA,

 Hello, good evening.

I am now about to present the result of the poll I have had up on the blog now for a couple of months. More participants than before, which is delightful for me! I have had a total of 23 279 hits since September 5, 2008, and a total of 8450 different readers – something which is really fun to see, when I have put so many hours into this (not lately maybe, but I have done before and will in the future)!

So, the results:

Sincerely yours,

YNWA,

 Liverpool-Aston Villa 5-0

Liverpool: Dirk Kuyt ‘8; Albert Riera ‘33; Gerrard ‘39, ‘50, ‘65.

Aston Villa: -

To all you who doubted.

No resume needed, I guess. 5-0 – a showdown.

Alvaro Arbeloa made his best game so far this season, active both in offensive and defensive (should maybe have taken a shot, after Brad Friedel’s mistake?). Fabio Aurelio as good as Arbeloa! Jamie Carragher and Martin Skrtel immaculate together with José Reina in goal who made a couple of nice reflex saves.

Steven Gerrard and Xabi Alonso were fantastic, controlling the midfield as usual. Albert Riera surprised and was really, really alert! On the right Dirk Kuyt was trustworthy, and in the defensive midfield Javier Mascherano did few mistakes.

Fernando Torres had a hard time up front, alone against Aston Villa’s defensive line (clearly told by Martin O’Neill to take Torres down).

So, with 5-0 in this game and 4-0 and 1-4 wins, we have a total of 13-1 against some of the best teams in the world.

Hallelujah and YNWA

Sincerely yours,

RedWalk

Sunday at 16.00 GMT Liverpool face Aston Villa at Anfield – a game which we supporters now expect to win, having to magnificent wins in our trunk.

Last meeting this season, on  Villa Park, against the Birmingham side ended a boring 0-0 draw – something which must change if we are to recover the points we are behind Manchester United in the Premier League.

Lucas Leiva + Stiliyan Pwtrov = fail?

But last season’s first game against Villa showed how classy our captain Steven Gerrard can be (and, well, is!):

“OH, AND IT’S A BRILLIANT GOAL, IT’S A BRILLIANT GOAL FROM STEVEN GERRARD!”

Read the most interesting rumour today!

http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/images5/threllfall_robbie120x80.jpg

SkySports reports that our talented left-back Robbie Threlfall is on his way to Swedish league challenging side Djurgårdens IF. Fun thing is,  my top favourite team overall (Liverpool) then will lend a player to my favourite Swedish team (Djurgården)!

http://www.svenskidrott.se/Downloads/46701/pics/DIF_Logga.jpg

Most of you may not have heard of Djurgården (also known as DIF or Järnkaminerna), but Djurgården have some strings in international football. Players such as Kim Källström (currently midfielder in Lyon, France), Johan Elmander (Bolton’s record transfer), Andreas Johansson (creative second striker, Ålborg, Denmark, which advances in the UEFA Cup), Andreas Isaksson (PSV Eindhoven, goalkeeper), and Tobias Hysén (ex-Black Cat under Roy Keane, left for Swedish side IFK Göteborg) are all Djurgården adepts!

Källström (left) and Isaksson (right) are two ex-Djurgården players who have made it to the international stage.

Djurgården’s current squad contains few great players, the most prominent and internationally know might be Mattias Jonson (ex-Swedish national team and have played for Norwich). Otherwise, Aki Riihilathi (former Crystal Palace motor), and Daniel Sjölund (Finnish national team playmaker, played for Liverpool and West Ham United before joining Djurgården, where he now is, in my eyes, the most important player and may get the captain’s armband this season).

Threlfall has played two games for Stockport this season, where he was on loan.

If Threlfall now joins DIF or not is to see, but SkySports is a good source for transfer rumours, and the fact that this news is so awkward might just prove its legimitacy.

DIF is the best Swedish club seen over the 21th century, with three league wins, but last year was really bad and DIF ended up on 12th place. This year though, they aim higher, and the Allsvenska soon starts, hopefully with Threlfall in DIF’s defensive line.

Sincerely yours,

YNWA,
